How to Install Clip-In Hair Extensions Like a Pro

How to Care for Your Hair Extensions (and Real Hair)

Beautiful hair starts with consistent care. Here’s how to protect your investment and keep your extensions—and your real hair—looking flawless.

Step 1: Wash Wisely

Wash only when needed (about every 10–15 wears). Use sulfate-free, alcohol-free shampoo and massage gently from mid-length to ends. Avoid rubbing or twisting.

Step 2: Condition & Rinse

Apply conditioner from mid-length to ends and let it sit for 5 minutes before rinsing in cool water. Never apply conditioner to the clips or bonds.

Step 3: Dry Gently

Blot with a towel—don’t wring or rub. Air dry when possible, or use a low-heat setting if needed. Always dry clips and wefts thoroughly before storing and sleeping.

Step 4: Style Safely

Apply a lightweight heat protectant spray before any heat styling and keep temperatures below 350°F. Avoid oil-based serums near clip/weft/tape areas.

Step 5: Store Smart

After wearing, brush with an extension-safe brush and hang or store in a satin bag to prevent tangling.

Pro Tip: Deep-condition your natural hair weekly to maintain strength and moisture under your extensions.
